The September 2003 issue of the Engineered Software Fluid Flow Newsletter describes how you can use PIPE-FLO to provide you with information about the operation of fluid piping systems.  PIPE-FLO provides an accurate mathematical simulation of fluid piping systems.  With an accurate model of your system you can see how the piping system will operate under a variety of expected conditions.  This newsletter describes how you can view the system operation using the PIPE-FLO programs.  This includes the free PIPE-FLO Viewer program.

1. PIPE-FLO 8 RELEASED

PIPE-FLO Professional version 8 was release last month and it currently being shipped to both new customers, customers with the TechNet Update and Support Subscription, and PIPE-FLO Professional customer who purchased the program since June 1, 2003.

Version 8 includes many new features that streamline the equipment selection process, provides warnings when equipment is not operation within the manufacturers recommend value, and improves the ability to view the results.  To see how PIPE-FLO Version 8 can help you gain a clear picture of your fluid piping systems, sign up for the free PIPE-FLO Web presentation at http://www.eng-software.com/demo.

SEE PIPE-FLO IN OPERATION

If you would like to see PIPE-FLO in operation, why not sign up for a Web Presentation.  All you need is 45 minutes, a computer with an Internet connection, and a phone.  One of our application engineers will demonstrate PIPE-FLO, and you’ll be able to see the program in operation and get your questions answered.  It’s quick, it’s free, and it’s an excellent way to see how PIPE-FLO can help you get a clear picture of your next piping system.

To sign up for a free PIPE-FLO Web presentation call toll free 1 (800) 786-8545 or log onto http://www.eng-software.com/demo and sign up for the Web Demo.

2.  VIEWING RESULTS ON THE FLO-SHEET

The piping schematic drawing is the central feature of the PIPE-FLO program.  Using the programs built in drawing tools, you can quickly create a professional piping schematic comparable to any CAD program.  But unlike a CAD program, PIPE-FLO’s FLO-Diagram also shows you how the piping system operates.

After a system calculation is performed the pressure and flow results are displayed on the FLO-Sheet.  Under the Tools / Drawing Options menu you have the option of choosing the results format for every item on the FLO-Sheet.

Using the Tag feature you can select which FLO-Sheet objects you wish to display the results.  Simply choose the Tag tool on the button bar and click on the object you with to tag.  The tagged objects turn yellow when in the edit mode.  In the results mode PIPE-FLO displays only the results for the tagged object.

3.   THE FLY-BY VIEWER

The fly-by-viewer on the bottom of the PIPE-FLO window displays information about the object the mouse is over.  Point to a pump and see its name, elevation, and how it is operating.  When the calculated results are displayed, the fly-by viewer displays the flow rate through the pump, the Total Developed Head, and Net Positive Suction head.

The fly-by viewer also displays warning messages for objects running outside per-defined limits.  For example if a pump is running outside the manufacturers allowable operating area, PIPE-FLO turns the pump red on the FLO-Sheet and provides you with a warning message on the fly-by-viewer.

PIPE-FLO Demonstrated at the CHEMSHOW

Engineered Software will be demonstrating the PIPE-FLO program at the 50 th ChemShow at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, on November 18-20, 2003.

We will be on the main floor in booth 1100 on the main floor demonstrating PIPE-FLO.  You'll see the program in operation and get all your questions answered by our knowledgeable staff.

If you would like free tickets to the exhibition hall please give us a call at 1 (800) 786-8545.  Or you can send us an e-mail at sales@eng-software.com, don't forget to give us your mailing address, and the number of tickets you would like to receive.  If you pre-register for tickets you won't have to wait in line.

4.   THE LIST VIEW

The list view provides a detailed tabular view of similar objects appearing on the FLO-Sheet.  To display a list view, click on the list view dropdown list button and choose the desired list.  There are list for pipelines, nodes, tanks, demands, pumps, components and controls.  The list views display design information as well as calculated results when the FLO-Sheet is in the results view.

The list view and the FLO-Sheet are synchronized, so if you click on an object on the FLO-Sheet the list view highlights the object on the list and displays the results.  Conversely if you click on an item on the list view, the item is highlighted on the FLO-Sheet.

5.   EXPORTING RESULTS

Often we get asked, “Is it possible to export the results from PIPE-FLO to other applications?”  The answer is yes, PIPE-FLO can export piping system data in a Comma Separated Variable (CSV) format.  To export the data, simply select the File / Save Text File and provide a name for the file.  The CSV file can then be opened by Excel or similar spreadsheets.

Using this feature you can export just the design data (by choosing the Save Text File when in edit mode) or design data and calculated results (by choosing the Save Text File when in the calculation mode).  Not only is the information exported, but header information is provided documenting each of the data fields.

Many of our customers use this program feature to feed other engineering applications, or generate customized printed reports and data sheets for equipment selection.

6. PRINTED REPORTS

PIPE-FLO has a variety of printed reports from the FLO-Sheet report that displays the piping schematic and calculated results to the individual pipeline data sheets documenting all the design details for a pipeline.  These reports provide complete documentation on all PIPE-FLO’s calculations.

Using the PIPE-FLO program you can send printed reports to any Widows supported printer or plotter.  In addition PIPE-FLO can create any report as a (Portable Document Format) PDF file.  Everything needed to create the PDF is included with the program, so you don’t have to purchase any additional software.  In addition you can e-mail your reports as PDF attachments directly using your e-mail client.
