1. PIPE DATA TABLES CATALOGS

Engineers and designers are always using manufacturer’s catalogs and handbooks to look up information about pipe, valves, and fittings. Our PIPE-FLO programs use electronic data tables to look up design information needed for the pipeline pressure drop calculations. Using the Table Manager program supplied with PIPE-FLO, you can create or edit your own pipe, valve & fitting, and fluid tables.

PIPE-FLO is shipped with a variety of pipe tables based on industry standards. We are adding to the library of pipe tables all the time. A list of the most current pipe tables can be found on the Engineered Software Knowledge Base at http://www.eng-software.com/kb and search for “Pipe Table Listing”. Here you’ll find the current pipe list.  After downloading the file to your computer, you can extract the tables by double clicking on the icon. This expands the files and creates directories under your Tables directory for each type of pipe material. You can then load the pipe tables you need for your piping projects.
If you would like to see additional pipe tables or a manufacturer' pipe products added to the list please direct your request to solutions@eng-software.com. Please include the standard name and number and/or list the company, the pipe products you would like added and a contact name at the company, or fax a copy of the standard to 360-412-0672.

2. FLO-SHEET DRAWING OPTIONS
The FLO-Sheet is the central feature of the PIPE-FLO program. It is a based on a process flow diagram and Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID). But do you know you can customize your FLO-Sheet drawing using the Drawing Options feature?
To change your drawing options display the FLO-Sheet content menu (move the mouse to a blank area on the FLO-Sheet and click the right mouse button) and choose the Drawing Options menu item. Here you can change your Viewing Options, Grid Options, and Results Options. You can also click on the Adjust Sizes button to change the size of the text and object symbols on the FLO-Sheet. Once the changes are made to the FLO-Sheet, everyone viewing your project with PIPE-FLO will see the drawing as you created it.
The “Use as defaults” button on the Drawing Options tab saves your current Drawing Options as your PIPE-FLO defaults. That way the next time you create a system, PIPE-FLO starts up using your drawing preferences.

One final point about drawing options, since they are part of the System Setting & Properties screen they become part of all design files created. When you create a new PIPE-FLO system using a design file, the FLO-Sheet has the Drawing Options as found in the referenced design file, regardless of your preferences.

3. EDITING THE FLO-SHEET
Just like CAD programs, PIPE-FLO allows you to edit the FLO-Sheet drawing once it is created. You can move individual or groups of objects around the drawing, copy and paste objects, as well as delete objects from the FLO-Sheet.
The names of the objects appear on the FLO-Sheet, giving you the ability to use your own name. You can change the name or any object by double-clicking the object and changing the name in the dialog box.
To hide the name of an object on the FLO-Sheet:
  • Rename the object to start with a “~” character

  • On the Drawing Options screen un-select the “Show ~” check box

  • All object names beginning with a ~ will not appear on the FLO-Sheet, but it appears on all lists as well as the fly-by viewer

Vertices can be added to or removed from any of the pipelines on the FLO-Sheet. For detailed instructions, review the PIPE-FLO Help topics dealing with vertices or review the Knowledge Base articles http://www.eng-software.com/kb and search on “Vertex”.

4. TEXT & CALL OUT BOXES
PIPE-FLO 7.1 supports floating text with call out boxes, which increases the presentation value of the FLO-Sheet. Now you can insert text anywhere on the FLO-Sheet, displaying information about the system, list related drawings, or indicate the equipments location in the plant. You can increase the impact of the text by enlarging the font, or changing the color.
You can also draw call out boxes on the FLO-Sheet to further increase the impact of your note, or to indicate the location of groups of objects on the FLO-Sheet. To create a call out box:
  • Choose the pointer tool

  • Hold down the mouse button a draw a rectangle around the objects you wish to highlight

  • Select the “Draw rectangle” menu item on the FLO-Sheet context menu

  • Once the call out box is on the FLO-Sheet you can double click on the object and further change its attributes

Free-floating text can have FLO-Links associated with them so you can link to a drawing, tables, charts, or other electronic documents.
To find out more information about how to increase the presentation value of your FLO-Sheet go to the Engineered Software Knowledge Base http://www.eng-software.com/kb and search for article 1342 “Improving the Presentation Quality of the FLO-Sheet”.

6. KNOWLEDGE BASE

The Engineered Software Knowledge Base provides technical support for all Engineered Software Products. The Knowledge Base is a searchable database of articles, case studies, answers to frequently asked questions, program bulletins, program upgrades and engineering data tables. It is always open and can be accessed by anyone.

To find an article in the Knowledge Base:
  1. Enter text in the Search for edit box.

  2. Select the Type of search:  (full text, key word, title, or record number)

  3. You have the option of limiting your search to: a specific program, version of PIPE-FLO, or Article type.

  4. After clicking on the Search button a list of articles is displayed.

Many of the articles have instructions that can be printed, and example files for your review. You also have the ability to send someone a link to the article (something our Tech Support group does quite often), or send feed back to Engineered Software.

WEB BASED TRAINING FOR TECHNET PLUS CUSTOMERS
