1. LINKING TO PIPING SYSTEM DOCUMENTS
A tremendous number of documents are required to design, build, operate, and maintain fluid piping system. A major problem involves finding the right documents when needed. The challenge is providing easy access to the people who use the documents.
PIPE-FLO 7.1 has solved this problem for fluid piping systems. Using the new FLO-Link feature of PIPE-FLO, you can insert hypertext links to any object in the piping system model. For example, you can provide a link to a manufacturer’s Website where you can view the latest Operations and Maintenance manual for a selected pump; or link to your company’s maintenance management software so you can display the pumps maintenance history.
We got this idea while talking to a group of PIPE-FLO customers. They use PIPE-FLO to troubleshoot and isolate problems in operating fluid piping systems in a chemical plant. Once they isolated the problem, they would check out the equipment maintenance manual and review the equipments maintenance history. It took them a while to find the documents and log onto the maintenance management program, so we developed the hypertext links so they can view this information directly in PIPE-FLO while they are troubleshooting the system.
An example of a piping system model using hypertext links can be found in the Knowledge Base Article, “Getting the Most from a PIPE-FLO Model” http://www.eng-software.com/kb/item.asp?ID=1350. It has an example piping system in PSV (Piping System View) format with Web links to various manufacturers Websites. You will need to download a copy of the free PIPE-FLO Viewer to view the PSV file.

2. THE PIPE-FLO DEMO & CASE STUDIES
The PIPE-FLO Demo (available on CD-ROM or by downloading from the Engineered Software Website (http://www.eng-software.com/demo)) includes a variety of case studies showing how PIPE-FLO can be used to:
  •  Size a centrifugal pump

  •  Calculate a pumps NPSHa (Net Positive Suction Head available)

  •  Balance a piping system

  •  Isolate and correct a problem control valve

  • Find piping system bottlenecks

  • Minimize pumping cost

Each case study has a FLO-Link to the Engineered Software Knowledge Base article where you will find step-by-step instructions on how to use the PIPE-FLO demo to accomplish the above tasks.
Take some time to review your PIPE-FLO Demo and see for yourself how you can gain a clear view of your fluid piping system.

3. LINKING TO A WEBSITE
Using the PIPE-FLO demo, you can create your own FLO-Links to a document located on the World Wide Web. It’s quick and easy, so why not try it for yourself.
To create a FLO-Link to a Website:
  1. Double-click any object on the FLO-Sheet

  2. In the dialog box click the Links tab

  3. Click the Add button and enter the following:

  4. Click the mouse on the black triangle next to the objects name and choose the “Link to the Engineered Software Website”
