1. PIPE-FLO QUICK START

There are three secrets to quickly starting a PIPE-FLO piping system. They are:

  • Start your project using Design Template Files

  • Place the tanks, pumps, components, and controls on the FLO-Sheet before drawing the connecting pipelines

  • Use the copy feature

These suggestions apply to all PIPE-FLO programs including PIPE-FLO Compressible and PIPE-FLO Stock. More information on starting a PIPE-FLO Model Quickly can be found on the Engineered Software Knowledge Base at the following link: http://www.eng-software.com/kb/item.asp?ID=1335.
On the third Thursday of every month Engineered Software conducts a Web Seminar entitled “PIPE-FLO Quick Start”. This Web seminar is designed for first time PIPE-FLO users, along with those wanting to get the most from PIPE-FLO’s advanced features.  This seminar is open to all TechNet Plus subscribers, as well as all new PIPE-FLO customers. To register for this or any other Web Seminar log into http://www.eng-software.com/technet/seminar.htm or contact Demry McCoy at demry.mccoy@eng-software.com.
NOTICE TO TECHNET PLUS SUBSCRIBERS: The PIPE-FLO Quick Start Web seminar does not count as one of your four Web Seminars for the year.

  • The “Three Secrets” of quickly building a piping system

  • How to create your own pipe specifications and design files that can be used by everyone at your company

  • How to build a piping system, select the equipment, and see how the system operates under different operating conditions

February in Orlando is an excellent time to learn about PIPE-FLO and take a break from the winter weather.
We’ll also be conducting a FLO-Master seminar in Houston Texas on March 25th and 26th

2. PIPE-FLO VIEWER
Have you ever wanted to share a PIPE-FLO model with someone, only to find out they didn’t have a copy of PIPE-FLO to view it with? With the release of PIPE-FLO Professional version 7.1 you can now e-mail your project as a Piping System View (PSV) file to vendors, associates, and clients. After receiving the PSV file, they can see all the system details using the free PIPE-FLO Viewer program, available at http://www.eng-software.com/psv.
For example, you can send a control valve vendor a copy of your piping system model in the PSV file format. Using the PIPE-FLO Viewer program they have all the details of the control valves inlet and outlet pipelines, along with the fluid properties. Every lineup in the system can be viewed and printed using the viewer program as well. Your PSV file can also contain a link back to a Website containing your company's control valve specification requirements.
To demonstrate how a control valve can use a PSV file for selecting control valves, click on the following Knowledge Base link http://www.eng-software.com/kb/item.asp?ID=1336. There you will find a write up along with a sample PSV file that can be downloaded and used in the example.

3.  PIPE-FLO LIST REPORT
One of the major enhancements to PIPE-FLO 7.1 is in the area of printed reports. You have greater format options on the list report, a new pipeline report option, and the ability to e-mail reports as PDF attachments.
With the list report you can now choose what sections you wish to print along with the option of not including a page break between the sections. This cuts down on the length of your reports.
A new Pipeline report option is available. This report provide a detailed pipeline headloss calculation sheet for pipelines in the system. This report is ideal for manually checking or documenting the individual pipeline details and headloss calculations. You can print the report for all the pipelines or selected pipelines in the system.
With PIPE-FLO 7.1 you can now e-mail reports in PDF file format. There is nothing else to buy and no need to leave PIPE-FLO, everything you need is in supplied with PIPE-FLO.
To find out about this and other PIPE-FLO printing features click on the Help button and refer to the Printed Reports tab in the help file contents.

4.  HI STANDARDS AVAILABLE WITHIN PIPE-FLO
The Hydraulic Institute (http://www.pumps.org) recently released ANSI/HI Pump Standards, 2002 Release. This all-new edition contains information on centrifugal pumps, vertical turbines, rotary pumps, and reciprocating pumps. The Pump Standards are invaluable if you specify, purchase, test, operate, or maintain pump of any kind.  The Pump Standards, 2002 Release are now available on CD-ROM so you can have immediate access on your computer.
Engineered Software and the HI have worked together so that you can access your HI Pump Standards, 2002 Release directly from within our PIPE-FLO or PUMP-FLO programs. Once you install the HI Standards on a computer with the PUMP-FLO or PIPE-FLO programs, a HI Standards button is automatically added to the Quick Start Button menu as well as the Tools menu. Now if you have a pump question within PIPE-FLO you can reference the standard for the answer.
Engineered Software is an authorized reseller of the ANSI/HI Pump Standards, 2002 Release CD-ROM. For more information on the pump standards click onto http://www.eng-software.com/hi/hi2002.htm or call Engineered Software toll free at 1-800-786-8545.
