PIPE-FLO Feature of the Month
Reducing Energy Consumption

Every time you turn on the news someone is talking about the need to reduce energy consumption. According to the Hydraulic Institute pumping systems account for nearly 20 percent of the world's electrical energy demand and they represent 25 to 50 percent of the energy usage in certain industrial plant operations.

That is a lot of energy consumed by pumps, and if you are looking at ways to reduce the energy consumption in your plant, pumps are a good place to start. PIPE-FLO can model the operation of a pump under fixed speed or variable speed operation. This might translate into the energy savings you have been looking for.

The following link describes how to Model a Variable Speed Pump in PIPE-FLO Knowledge Base Article 1382. The second article includes a set of example system that you can use to see for yourself how you can save power on the pumps in your fluid piping system. Knowledge Base Article 1437.

We at Engineered Software are committed to helping our customers better understand their fluid piping systems and many of our upcoming newsletter articles we be centered on how to improve the efficiency of your piping systems.
