| Don’t forget, with the release of the PIPE-FLO 2007, all legacy versions of the software older than version 8 are no longer supported and no longer have upgrade value. If you have version 7.1 and would like to upgrade to the latest version of PIPE-FLO, now is the time. In addition, versions 2004 and 8 will also lose some of their upgrade value as they get further away from the most current release of the program. | |
| For more information, please call us at (800) 786-8545. | |
| ESI will be in Orlando, FL the last week of November presenting the PIPE-FLO product line at the 2006 Power-Gen International Convention. Power-Gen is the world’s largest power exhibition and it begins November 28 and finishes up on November 30th. | |
| Over 16,000 industry members are expected to attend the three day educational, networking, and business event, taking place at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando, Florida. If you are in Orlando, check us out at Booth 1463 in Exhibit Hall B. | |

2007 FLO-MASTER Seminars |
|
| We are in the final stages of planning seminars for next year but we are taking suggestions for locations. If you would like to request a city near you, please let us know by emailing your suggestion to: sales@eng-software.com | |
| The seminars are two days, with the second day completely focused on real-world examples and hands-on use of the program. Examples will include advanced pump selection, variable frequency drive analysis, advanced controls, balancing a system, system expansion and building a system from scratch. | |
| Onsite FLO-Master training classes are still available and can be conducted on your site for up to 12 attendees, saving you time away from the office. Our expert instructors deliver onsite training to you and your plant staff. For more information or for a schedule of FLO-Master Seminar dates: Call 800-786-8545 or email info@eng-software.com. | |
| Logon to the web and check for updates about future FLO-Master Seminars at http://www.eng-software.com/products/flomaster.aspx. The seminars qualify for 15 Professional Development Hours needed to fulfill Professional Engineers’ continuing education requirements in many states. | |
| This month a support ticket crossed my desk regarding importing a PIPE-FLO version 6 project into PIPE-FLO 2005. PIPE-FLO 6 piping projects had a “.pll” file extension, PIPE-FLO version 7 and above use a “.pipe” file extension. | |
| We highly recommend that you convert all your PIPE-FLO version 6 projects to a more current version of PIPE-FLO. A Knowledge Base article entitled Updating PIPE-FLO Project Files from Version 6 can be found at the following Web address: (http://www.eng-software.com/kb/item.aspx?article=1215 ). | |
| The conversion program from version 6 uses some old 16 bit program code. We don’t know how much longer Microsoft will be supporting 16 bit applications after their release of Windows Vista later this year. | |
| While we’re on the subject of importing older PIPE-FLO projects; with the release of PIPE-FLO 2007, you will be able to directly import piping projects developed using PIPE-FLO version 8, 2004, and 2005. For piping system models created with older versions of PIPE-FLO, back to version 6 you will first need to open the project in PIPE-FLO version 8 or newer and save the project prior to opening the project with PIPE-FLO 2007. | |
| So that we don’t strand any of our customers, you will be able to download a special version of PIPE-FLO 2005 that you can use to convert your older PIPE-FLO projects. The special version of PIPE-FLO 2005 will not require installation on your computer eliminating the need to have admin privileges. You simply start the program, open the old project file, save the file using the special PIPE-FLO 2005 and then open the project with PIPE-FLO 2007. | |
| If you have any questions on converting older projects please feel free to contact our support group at (360) 292-4060 or send an e-mail to solutions@eng-software.com. | |

The Polytechnic Engineering School of University of Zaragoza (Spain) is holding a 300-hour Advanced Program in Piping Technologies starting in February 2007. This program will be conducted through the Internet and is open to all engineers/technicians interested in piping throughout the world. The main language of the program is Spanish, but it is planned to offer the same program in English in February 2008. |
|
| The program combines the theoretical piping background with a large amount of exercises (40% of the program) where actual industrial piping situations are analyzed. Program instructors are both from the faculty side (professors) and the industrial side (piping engineers, mechanical engineers, technicians, designers, etc), some of them with more than 30 years of experience in piping. The last part of the program consists in the development of a comprehensive piping project, from the very beginning (process documentation, material/energy balances, drawings, etc), including piping calculation, material selection, equipment sizing, to the smallest detail. | |
| During the program, and thanks to an agreement signed with Engineered Software, extensive use of PIPE-FLO Professional package is employed. This helps students understand the different problems that can happen in piping facilities and also lets them achieve a good and deep level of expertise with the PIPE-FLO software. | |
| The program also collaborates with the Society of Piping Engineers and Designers (SPED) and with leading oil and petrochemical Spanish companies, such as Repsol YPF, CLH and Nurel. Thus, the advanced program will offer the students the possibility of applying for SPED “Professional Piping Designer (PPD) Certificate” by taking the PPD test at University of Zaragoza once or twice a year. Also, the companies involved will provide the program with actual industrial examples of piping. | |
