1. PIPE-FLO PROFESSIONAL 2004
This October we released PIPE-FLO Professional 2004, a major program enhancement to our fluid piping software. This new version of PIPE-FLO Professional streamlines the design process, provides you with more informational about operating equipment, and includes a variety of new drawing features.
The initial comments from our early program testers were very positive and we are looking forward to your comments. The following link describes the new PIPE-FLO Professional 2004 features.

 PUMP TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
A variety of pump training classes are available, given by some of the best pump people in the world. In talking to recent engineering graduates, I am continually surprised at how little time is spent on the theory and application of pumps. By attending one of these fine classes, you will round out your knowledge and experience on pump.
TWO-DAY PUMP TRAINING IN ATLANTA GA, DECEMBER 2004
This 2-day action-oriented course is prepared for maintenance personnel, engineers, equipment reliability leaders, plant operators, purchasing and facility management who are involved with pumps, and want to get a better understanding of pump designs, application-related differences between the pump types, as well as obtain a practical and hands-on reassembly of various pumps, to supplement the theory. The course provides an opportunity to review, refresh and enhance the attendants' pump knowledge, and to learn the latest pump technologies to help solve their specific problems. It also provides an opportunity to interact, learn from the instructor and from each other, and to implement the troubleshooting techniques at the facilities immediately following the training.
Class to be held in Atlanta, GA December 2-3, 2004. Visit www.PumpingMachinery.com Pump School section for registration information.
PUMP SYSTEM ANALYSIS SEMINAR FOR ENGINEERS - CALGARY
The session for engineers emphasizes the calculation methods for pump total head. A lab with a small working centrifugal pump system which helps demonstrate key concepts of pump systems. Participants get to apply the knowledge by doing a complete example of pump sizing. They leave this session with the knowledge of how to select pumps and solve pump system problems.
* 2-Day seminar for engineers Dec. 8-9, 2004
* 1-Day seminar for pump users on Dec. 10, 2004

2. MAJOR PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS
PIPE-FLO Professional includes many program enhancements including new tank features, list view improvements, improvements in the pan and zoom tool, the addition of new button bars, enhanced pump evaluation, easier modeling of control valves, and more accurate modeling of components. The following link describes each one of these features in greater detail.
http://www.eng-software.com/products/features/v2004print.htm.
We’ll be discussing the new tank feature, and list view enhancements in greater detail in this newsletter. We will be covering the other new features in the upcoming months.
3. TANK ENHANCEMENTS
We added some major enhancements to tanks and vessels in the newest release of PIPE-FLO. In version 2004, you can have multiple pipelines going to a single tank. You can have up to four pipelines going into a single tank, and by changing the tank level and pressure PIPE-FLO automatically adjusts the pressure seen at the end of the pipelines. By entering a tank base elevation, and the elevation of each pipeline penetration, PIPE-FLO automatically calculates the boundary pressure of each pipeline penetrating the tank.
In addition, we also added a tank volume calculation in this new release. PIPE-FLO can calculate the volume for rectangular tanks, spherical tanks, along with horizontal and vertical cylindrical tanks with four different head configurations. Not only does PIPE-FLO calculate the volume of the tank for your various configurations, it will also calculate the tank level for a given volume.
This is a major program enhancement and will be a real time saver for those designing new systems.
ATTEND A PIPE-FLO WEB PRESENTATION
The easiest way to see how PIPE-FLO can help you on your next piping project is to see the program in operation and have someone available to answer your questions.
For the last two years, we have been demonstrating PIPE-FLO to thousands of engineers, designers, and operators with the help of Web Meeting software. All it takes is an Internet connection, a Web browser, and a phone line.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, we conduct Web presentations on how PIPE-FLO can provide a clear picture of fluid piping systems. The Tuesday presentation shows how PIPE-FLO helps you design individual pipelines, calculate the operation of the total system, select pump and control valves, and simulate the operation of the system under a variety of operating conditions.
The Thursday session shows how PIPE-FLO is being used by owners and operators of piping systems to help them gain a clear picture of their piping systems operate.
To sign up for a Web presentation go to the Engineered Software Website and sign up for a Web presentation by going to http://www.eng-software.com and clicking on the Demo link. You can also call Engineered Software toll free at 1-800-786-8545 and sign up for the next PIPE-FLO Web presentation.
4. THE LIST VIEW, A NEW WAY TO LOOK AT YOUR SYSTEM
Another major feature of PIPE-FLO 2004 is the list view. Now you can edit items directly on the list view, eliminating the need to display the dialog box first.
The list view behaves more like your familiar spreadsheet.
  • Using the tabs at the bottom of the list window you can change list views.
  • Sort the list by clicking on the column heading.
  • Automatically set the column width by double-clicking on the column header.
  • Move the list view anywhere within your Windows environment, even to a second monitor connected to your system.
Using the sort and edit feature of the new list view you can quickly discover bottlenecks and optimize your piping system design.
5. ODDS & ENDS - PUMP MANUFACTURERS CATALOGS
PUMP MANUFACTURERS CATALOGS – With PIPE-FLO you can insert any centrifugal pump into your piping system model and see how the pump and piping operates as a system. You can manually enter the pump data, or have PIPE-FLO automatically import the pump performance information directly from manufacturers supplied Electronic Pump Catalogs. Over 75 pump manufacturers make their catalogs available to PIPE-FLO customers.
Working with these pump manufacturers we have made it easy for you to get their data. Simply go to the following address on the Engineered Software Website http://www.eng-software.com/pml/default.aspx find your manufacturers, and click on the “Download Now” link. PIPE-FLO downloads the catalog from the Website and installs it on your computer. It’s that easy. If you don’t see your favorite manufacturer on the list send an email to info@pump-flo.com and let us know. We’ll contact the manufacturer and tell them of your request.
